Job Description
El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission (“El Buen”) seeks a Summer Camp Teacher Assistant (Temporary/Seasonal). As part of the team, you will provide support to the Youth Development Coordinators who supervise groups of children in an academic, recreational, and/or enrichment setting during Summer Camp. You will ensure the safety of the students while assisting in the development and execution of a program plan which occurs during summer camp. Position may assist with a project, activity, or tutor students in advanced academic subjects.

This position will be in an in-person environment, Monday – Thursday from 8:30am – 3:30pm starting May 27 – July 31 (With a week break from June 30 – 4th).

Essential Support Functions:

  • Assist with leading and supervising a group of students, approximately 15-20, during summer camp programming in June and July.
  • Assist the youth development coordinators to develop and implement a schedule of activities which meet the physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs of the children. These will include individual and group activities.
  • Contribute to the development of and implements age-appropriate STEAM lesson plans and activities, including social/emotional learning that engage all participants and adapts activities as needed.
  • Help to identify educational and behavioral goals of individual children and groups of children and implement STEAM curriculum that actualizes goals, engaging in ongoing evaluation and adjustment as needed.
  • When on-site, support the youth development coordinators to ensure that the children are properly supervised at all times.
  • Support program requirements and assist with meeting them on a daily basis.
  • May attend daily meetings with the youth team and supervisor.
  • Assist the class when the Youth Development Coordinator is not available.
  • Assist youth development coordinators in distributing healthy snacks or meals as per the Central Texas Food Bank afterschool and summer meal service program standards.
  • Promote and model desired behavior and actions, healthy habits, proper hygiene, and physical activity.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment by keeping the youth classrooms clean and organized, cleaning the facility and toys as necessary, and removing physical hazards in the classrooms or on the courtyard or El Buen facilities, reports safety and health issues immediately to supervisor or maintenance.
  • Understand and implement emergency procedures in case of fire, tornados, or other emergencies; when necessary administer First-Aid/CPR.

Additional Job Duties:

  • Assist with student registration, placement examinations and test scoring.
  • Help maintain files and database; assists in preparing student records as well as class attendance, registration and report cards for each individual student.
  • May provide additional support throughout the family literacy department.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring:
  • Graduation from high school and a CDA or Associates in Early Childhood.
  • At least one year of experience working with youth required.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children in a group setting.
  • Understanding of teaching strategies for working with learning differences
  • Demonstrated competency assisting with basic math, reading and other elementary level schoolwork.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity working with our clients and Spanish-speakers.
  • Excellent skills in English language skills (writing, reading and verbal)
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to relate well to young children in an encouraging and positive way.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); ability to learn and utilize document creation software such as Adobe Acrobat and databases.
  • Must pass all required criminal history background checks; have a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Ability to use technology to facilitate virtual lessons, attend meetings and provide student support.

Hourly Rate: $18.00 - $20.00 (Rate to commensurate with experience)
